Adéla Knapová: Bearing witness to a country

Adéla Knapová was born in 1976 in Valašské Meziříčí. She is a journalist, novelist, playwright. She studied journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University in Prague. She has worked for Koktejl, Respekt, Reflex, and currently Právo and Novinky.cz.

She made her debut with the novella Nezvaní (The Uninvited, 2003), followed by six other prose titles, most recently Zbabělé zápisky z ukrajinské války (Cowardly Notes from the Ukrainian War, 2023) and Krvavý kompot (Bloody Compote, 2025). “This is a raw, personal and urgent book in which the writer and journalist Adéla Knapová bears witness to a country that refuses to give up, a city that stands in defiance, and people who hold their future in their own hands,” the publisher described her latest title.
