Eli Beneš was born in 1976 in Prague. He is a journalist and writer. He studied English and American studies and Czech language and literature at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and journalism and media studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences there. He works for Seznam.cz.
In 2023, he published his first novel, Nepatrná ztráta osamělosti (A Minuscule Loss of Loneliness), which was awarded as Debut of the Year in the Magnesia Litera award. “I had no ambition to describe the Holocaust, but to write an existential novel. It was hard work,” he said in an interview with Markéta Kaňková.
