Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez is Venezuelan writer (* 1967) living in Spain. He has published thirty works in various genres – novels, short stories, children’s literature, essays and more. He has a PhD. in Spanish-American literature from Salamanca, Spain. He has lived in Madrid since 1998 and works in the cultural department of the Instituto Cervantes as a literary specialist. He has received numerous Venezuelan and international awards for his short stories and novels. In France, his novels are published by the prestigious Métailié publishing house.
His latest works include Roman de la Isla Bararida (Romance of the Island of Bararida, 2024), which blends poetry with prose, pre-Columbian myths with European chivalric novels, and Caribbean sensuality with the contemporary dehumanized world. In the anthology Kruely, published this year by Argo Publishing in the Czech Republic, his short story Hasta luego, Míster Salinger (Goodbye, Mr. Salinger, 2007) from the collection of the same name was published.
