Karel Škrabal: A small group against the crowd
 – Czechia

Born in 1969 in Jihlava. He did not graduate from universities in Brno in either technology or sociology. He lives in Prague. He has worked as a journalist in newspaper and television for over thirty years (currently in the daily Právo).

He has published eight poetry collections, most recently the collection Jedu (I’m Going, 2024). He is a member of the radical group Vítrholc since 1994, he has run the website Nedělní chvilka poezie.cz (The Sunday Moment of Poetry) since 2014.

“Personally, I would like to stand on the side of the barricade that will fight for freedom, tolerance, equality, justice and against violence,” he said. “I will be on the side of human rights and civil liberties. I am and will be a civil society until I die, even if it consists of only a small group standing against the crowd.”
