Touhfat Mouhtare: Souls suspended between time and worlds
 – The Comoros Islands



Touhfat Mouhtare (* 1986) is a novelist and poet from the Comoros Islands and only the second Comorian female writer to publish after Coralie Frei. Her mother tongue is Comorian. She has lived in several African countries and studied Anglophone language and culture and communication studies in France.

In 2011, she published a collection of short stories Âmes suspendues (Suspended Souls). Her first novel, Vert cru (Raw Green), was published in 2018. Her latest novel, Le feu du milieu (The Fire of Circumstances), about the experiences and loves of two protagonists who free themselves from their original environment and set out across space and time, was published in 2022. In her literary work she focuses on mythology, the painful transmission of memory between generations, the determination to break out of silence, psychology, spirituality and humanism. Since 2022 she lives in Paris.
