Vladimír Morávek was born in 1965 in Moravský Krumlov. He studied directing at the JAMU in Brno. He is a theatre, film and television director and screenwriter, associated primarily with the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové and the theatre Husa na provázku in Brno. With Petr Lébl and J. A. Pitínský, he is one of the most important figures in Czech theatre after 1989.
Lucie Němečková et al. paid him a tribute in the monography Vladimír Morávek. U nás nudou neumřete (Vladimír Morávek. You Will Not Die of Boredom Here, 2004). He has gained fame by the films Nuda v Brně (Boredom in Brno, 2003) and Bandité pro baladu (Bandits for the Balad, 2022). In an interview with Naděžda Hávová for Czech Radio, he said: “I am actually not entirely genetically generated for the profession of director. Because I am skilled in dreams and clumsy in reality.”
